Gosho-ningyo of Tsurukame

Japanese Gosho-ningyo (Palace Doll) depicting the role of Emperor in the Noh drama Tsurukame, beautifully rendered standing gosho figure carved of wood and covered in a fine white gofun with painted details and silk fiber hair, padded upper arms,  rich green silk brocade outer robe with bold peony burst designs and a scroll-foliate background, with one sleeve thrown back to reveal a orange gold silk brocade inner kimono, Chinese-style court cap with side “wings” decorated in gold with painted details, gosho-ningyo are sometimes referred to as “Noh-ningyo” because they are frequently used to interpret Noh subjects, minor fading ,wear to cap, overall fine.
