Japanese Gosho-ningyo (Palace Doll) formed of toso wood composite as a single piece and covered overall in a fine white gofun,depicted kneeling and holding aloft in his right hand a separately formed golden money mallet, cherubic figure with both legs tucked underneath, wears a silk brocade haragake bib with red chirimen silk crepe neck and back tie, large head with small painted features including side locks, the brilliant gold money mallet features the chintamani sacred jewel design on its front and auspicious cranes and the shochikubai (three friends of winter) longevity symbols on its sides, indicating the gosho was intended as a gift bearing wishes for longevity and wealth.
