Japanese Gosho-ningyo, large scale, rare, 18th century seated doll form in an early gosho style known as hadaka saga (naked saga), depicting a seated boy, rich blue silk brocade textiles with thick padded hem, under haragake bib with embroidered designs of crane and flowers, sexed figure, laughing expression with well-carved mouth and narrow eyes, silk fiber hair (replaced), pulling a lacquered treasure sack on a cart, unusual construction technique with doll’s head separately carved, and body crafted out of wood but hollowed out, covered overall in a fine white gofun. Textiles late Edo, cap replaced, minor old repairs, overall fine condition.
