Takeda-ningyo depicting a warrior standing astride a boat raising a giant oar, well carved face with aggressive features covered in a fine white gofun with painted details and silk fiber hair, wearing a rich blue brocade kimono with black velvet trim and a green brocade kimono with silk crepe cuffs, both thrown back to reveal silk crepe under kimono embroidered with an undulating net pattern, a number of Takeda make allusion to the epic sea battle between the Taira and Genji clans known as Dan-no-Ura, this figure possibly represents Taira no Noritsune (1160-1185) who attempted to challenge Minamoto no Yoshitsune directly during the naval engagement and featured in numerous Kabuki plays. Wear to textiles, old repairs, cracks to face.
